Responsibilities of Liquor Licensed Premises and Patrons during Holidays
The RCIPS wants to encourage everyone to stay safe over the holiday period as our Holiday Safety Operation is in full effect.
As part of our enhanced public safety campaign throughout the holidays officers will continue conducting checks to ensure that both patrons and licensees of liquor licensed premises are operating in compliance with the law.
Licensees are reminded to adhere to the strict statutory time limit of ceasing all sales ten minutes before closing and ensuring that patrons exit their establishments at closing time, as stated in Sections 11 and 7 of the Liquor Licensing Law (2019 Revision). No patron is to be allowed outside the establishment with alcoholic beverages, in bottles or otherwise. Licensees with more than one violation of these requirements may be subject to their licenses being revoked or not renewed.
All members of the public are being asked not to loiter outside of these establishments after closing and not to drink and drive. Having opened bottles of alcoholic beverages or cups of alcohol in a vehicle, whether you are a passenger or driver, is also unlawful and on conviction carries a fine of $1,000 and imprisonment for 1 year for first time violations and more for subsequent violations.
The RCIPS has partnered with the Arrive Alive 345 Campaign to ensure that everyone enjoys the holidays safely and we encourage everyone to take advantage of services such as the Purple Ribbon Bus on New Year’s Eve and the Designated Driver Programme, which are being provided to you through this campaign.
